I recently reviewed the Nikon D3200, a new entry-level DSLR. As part of my test, I shot some portraits of Sarah at Gwdihw, a local bar which has a pretty cool interior. I used a pretty basic set-up to capture these (as always), using only the kit lens and a 50mm f/1.8 lens for all of the shots. Photographing with a kit lens – why you don’t (necessarily) always need the most expensive equipment

Yesterday I got to use the Sony Alpha a57 DSLT camera. It was supplied with the kit lens, which I have to admit that I have had my preconceptions about in the past (but it only goes down to f/3.5! but it surely won’t be sharp enough! surely the bokeh won’t be high quality!… etc).
