Arcades Project Christmas Specials

23 December, 2012 by amydavies

Just a very quick post to guide you over to my other blog where I’ve been running some Christmas specials. I’ve photographed two shops, Hubbard’s Cupboard, a beautiful vintage shop in the High Street Arcade, and the Royal Christmas Emporium, a pop-up shop in the Royal Arcade. The other post concentrates on the gorgeous lights throughout all of the arcades. There’s no need for lots of words in this post… just head over to the Cardiff Arcades Project and you’ll […]

Why it’s never OK to steal images from bloggers (or anyone else).

27 September, 2011 by amydavies

Many bloggers publish their work in the good faith that if someone else wants to use it, and believe me, we usually are flattered when they do, they will have the decency to ask permission from the owner before doing so. But, of course that isn’t always the case. People will merrily steal your work for use on their website, and if you’re very lucky you might get a credit. If you’re even luckier, you’ll get a link back to […]

These old law books won't tell us the answer...

Why the internet makes an ass out of the law

26 November, 2008 by amydavies

Shane Richmond , communities editor for The Telegraph made some interesting points in a recent lecture on online journalism regarding the law. My experience of media law has to date included a module for my BA in Journalism and the module I do now for my postgrad diploma. I’ve never been sued, and I’m hoping that, until the day I get employed by some hotshot magazine which has the weight behind it to fend off such things, I won’t be. […]

Some Questions Can't Be Answered By Google

Stuck In The Middle With Google

19 November, 2008 by amydavies

But do any of these questions matter? Doubtful. Well you know, we all want to change the world…. Oh hang on, Google actually has. Anthony Mayfield , another one of those heads of social media, but this time at iCrossing  pointed out this week in an online journalism lecture at Cardiff University that we are in the middle of a revolution.   Did you know?   Well, if you didn’t that’s alright because apparently people rarely know all this crazy […]

(Blog) Sermon on the Mount

10 November, 2008 by amydavies

My most successful day as author of this blog was Wednesday 22nd October 2008 on which I had the grand total of 58 hits. One can’t help but be slightly disappointed by this seemingly low number, inevitably when you’re putting the world to rights in your very own webspace you imagine that the great and the good are descending on your page and agreeing with your every sentiment. Therefore less than 60 hits (and that was just the best day […]

Who Is ‘U’?

16 October, 2008 by amydavies

“The beauty of UGC is that anyone can come and make what they want. Sell it. Distribute it. Whatever. So it keeps going without anyone needing to maintain it. The UGC becomes the appeal” – A consumer of UGC.       User generated content – or to put it in layman’s terms, stuff that’s contributed by the public – is constantly being hailed as a fantastic, all inclusive, undeniably positive force for good. Praise is heaped upon it […]
