Sunny Oxford on a beautiful summer’s day

8 October, 2012 by amydavies

We haven’t had a particularly good summer in the UK, but there were odd days of delicious sunshine. And on one of those days, by some miracle, I happened to be out shooting to review a camera. I’d never been to Oxford before, but my love for old architecture meant I knew I’d like it. I’m really happy to report that I wasn’t wrong in the slightest, and I spent a few hours merrily wandering around with no real plan […]

Cardiff in high contrast monochrome (shot with the Sony NEX-F3)

18 August, 2012 by amydavies

It’s fair to say that this summer has been a bit of a washout, weather-wise. So, a few weeks ago when yet another grey and gloomy day was threatening to thwart my photographic plans I decided to go with the mood instead. I was shooting with a Sony NEX-F3, which is one of the company’s compact system cameras. It’s a fun little camera to use, and one of its Picture Effects is called High Contrast Mono. Sometimes, I like to […]

Barcelona: Casa Batlló

13 November, 2011 by amydavies

On to another Gaudi masterpiece… I hope you’re not bored yet (personally I could look at Gaudi all day…), and here we have Casa Battlo. This is another of Gaudi’s designs located on the Passeig de Gracia and is one of the most colourful buildings you will come across in Barcelona (and that’s saying something). I love both the outside and inside of this one, with the beautiful chimneys and roofing proving that you can have style and function in […]

Barcelona: La Pedrera

12 November, 2011 by amydavies

The first time I visited La Pedrera – or Casa Mila as it is sometimes known – in 2004, I barely noticed it. Odd thing to say isn’t it? I remember taking a couple of quick snaps as we walked past it, but nothing more than that. Well this time, a little more informed and realising what wonders lie inside, or strictly speaking upstairs, on the roof, I made it a must-see destination. Unfortunately, it’s a little pricey to visit […]

Barcelona: La Sagrada Familia

8 November, 2011 by amydavies

The next set of photos from my recent trip to Barcelona come from the hugely touristic trap, La Sagrada Familia. It’s often said that a trip to Barcelona isn’t complete without a trip to La Sagrada, and judging by the hours and hours long queue outside, everyone’s read the same thing. My initial reaction to seeing a queue that long? “Bugger this.” Even, I, self-confessed Gaudiphile, desperate to see what had changed inside La Sagrada since my last visit in […]
